To Be A Great City, You Must First Be A Safe City

What is Residents Against Crimes (RAC)?

Residents Against Crime (RAC) is a community based volunteer organization that brings together citizens and law enforcement, as well as Local Government departments, to find sustainable solutions to community crime problems and quality of life issues.

This site (Residents Against Crimes) is an opportunity for Cairns Citizens to come together to make an impact on issues that affect the safety of our local and tourist Community.  There is a great deal we could do together to assist the authorities make Cairns a safe environment for our families and visitors.

What is RAC ?

RAC is the Cairns District  division of Residents Against Crimes. Members of RAC  focus their efforts on solving community problems in the Cairns District.

As members of RAC  responsible citizens become part of the team finding solutions to community problems. Citizens work with law enforcement, as well as city and state departments, to achieve common goals – safer neighbourhoods and an improved quality of life.

RAC meetings and discussion groups provide a forum for citizens to alert law enforcement, city and State departments of problems as they arise.

RAC  looks for information and ideas that promote a proactive approach to crime prevention and community development.

The Cairns Roundtable

The Cairns Roundtable is firmly committed to undertaking community initiatives through a process that is informed and includes broad based support.  As such the Roundtables' process is based on our beliefs that:

  • A Successful Community initiative requires that a clear vision be created and communicated widely.  Informed, committed and braad-based community leaders must lead efforts.

  • Community-based initiatives should do more than yield short term results.  They should also provide a focus for future policies and actions, to create an expanded civic capacity as citizens learn how to deal with change more effectively.

  • Local resources can be co-ordinated, leveraged by external resources and maximized to achieve Cairns desired future.

We hope you will support our initiatives by becoming a member of our website and joining our newsletter.

· Provides a forum where residents of the Cairns District  come together to improve their neighbourhood. This can be an effective way to resolve residents’ concerns and learn more about community problems.

· Gives Cairns  District  residents an opportunity to participate in crime prevention and community development. Residents work with law enforcement, city and county departments to solve neighbourhood problems.

· Provides information to educate and empower residents on how to access resources for crime prevention, safety and housing. This information can help with problems such as: abuse of alcohol, and other drug use, violence in the home    and child abuse.

· Provides a forum through which law enforcement can teach residents how to prevent crime. For example, law enforcement officers can talk about ways to: safeguard homes and businesses, spot danger, respond to an emergency, become a    less likely target for crime.

What kind of issues are we concerned with?
Residents in many neighbourhoods share some of the same concerns and fears. These may include issues of:

· Safety: such as drug dealing and drug use, vandalism, robberies, violent crime, gun shots and children’s safety.

· Noise pollution: from loud music, shouting and automobile engines.

· Neighbourhood appearance: including graffiti, abandoned autos, run-down buildings or property, litter and overgrown vacant lots.

· Traffic and parking problems: including too much traffic and reckless drivers.

BE WARNED YOU ARE BEING WATCHED

If are intending to assult or rob someone be warned there are eyes watching you in the CBD.

Cameras are located all around the CBD and are manned 24/7 so if you assult or rob anyone you maybe filmed and you will end up in court and perhaps jail.

The most sensible approach is to behave, cut down on the drink and walk away if someone wants to start a fight.

Residents Against Crimes Founder - 2007

I am dedicated to help prevent crimes in Cairns and the surrounding area. This city has unfortunately gone from bad to worse in regards to crime and we the residents of this great city need to band together and put pressure on our local representatives and let them know that we will not tolerate this behaviour. I will continue to pave the way for better living in peace and enable families and kids to enjoy the life the we enjoyed years ago without the fear of being assulted. This is not about me its about the community working together to make this a better place to live.

REMEMBER: TO BE A GREAT CITY, IT FIRST MUST BE A SAFE CITY.
